Abstract
The main aim of the AAI: DUELO / DUETO project was to provide an important forum for debate and reflection on Architecture, Art and Image. The aim was to promote a global critical analysis of the practice and discipline of Architecture and Art in general, looking for various intersections between these two worlds, as well as their connection with the universe of Image.
This project made it possible to test the implementation of a scopio Editions internationalization plan based on the research, investigation and communication work carried out within the scope of the interdisciplinary Architecture, Art and Image (AAI) programme. In this context, the planned activities are aimed both at segments specialized in these areas and at society in general, bringing together the academic world, architects and artists in debates open to different audiences. We thus ensured the continuity of the AAI Duelo/Dueto cycle of conferences and debates, held throughout 2015 and 2016, the results of which were the basic material for ensuring the continuity of the AAI: Duelo/Duetos project. Through this material, we intended to produce a physical record in book form and an audiovisual record accessible online, through a platform capable of nurturing a living memory of the project and fostering synergies with various cultural agents and new audiences, extending this cycle of debates on a national and international scale.
The debates that took place between the authors and curators of the titles constituted a new cycle of conferences and exhibitions that aimed to ensure their continuity over time, extending them to new spaces. The research, publishing and programming activities were strategically combined in order to stimulate dialogue between different disciplinary fields and artistic expressions, crossing themes that cut across the universes of Architecture, Art and Image. The dialogue established between these authors - of the books to be published and those invited to the new debate sessions - aims to extend the reflection so that it is not limited to a mere report or catalog of the activity, but constitutes a forum for debate capable of training and involving new audiences and, on the other hand, promoting new research and artistic creations.
This pluralistic approach has made it possible to nurture a dialogical process of critical reflection, which, after careful editing of the record of the debates held, will result in the book volumes that are intended to be published. The dissemination and referencing of this entire project through various AAI online platforms has served as an important support for research by more specialized segments of interest, as well as helping to disseminate and consult it by the general public.
Team
This project was developed by the Architecture, Art and Image (AAI) research group of the Center for Architecture and Urbanism Studies (CEAU) of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), the Cityscopio Cultural Association and Camilo Rebelo.
Pedro Leão Neto is the project's lead researcher, with Camilo Rebelo and Maria Neto as associated researchers. Various physical and audiovisual records have been developed to feed a living memory of the project and foster synergies with various cultural agents and new audiences, extending this cycle of debates to a national and international scale.
In this context, Duelo/Duetos - AAI # 2 Pedro Gadanho and Paolo Rosselli: Photographs by Paolo Rosselli" - was published, with plans to publish the remaining titles and authors in the near future:
AAI # 1 - Eduardo Souto de Moura and Rui Chafes: Dialogues between Art and Architecture"
AAI # 2 - Pedro Gadanho and Paolo Rosselli: A Talk on Architecture in Photography
AAI # 3 - Fernanda Fragateiro and Manuel Aires Mateus: Rethinking modernism"
AAI # 4 - Valerio Olgiati and Bas Princen: Photographs by Bas Princen"
The publication of each of these works will be accompanied by a conference, a traveling exhibition, and book launches with the presence of the respective authors and other special guests, in order to broaden the discussion and bring new perspectives and new issues around themes that are transversal to their works.
This plan has already been fulfilled through the various initiatives around the publication AAI #2 Pedro Gadanho and Paolo Rosselli: Photographs by Paolo Rosselli", among others:
