FAUP researcher wins 2025 Award for Excellence in Scientific Research Award
18th March 2025
Researcher André Tavares, from CEAU, FAUP Research Unit, will be honoured, ex aequo with Miguel Carvalhais, with the University of Porto 2025 Award for Excellence in Scientific Research in the area of Arts and Humanities. This award aims to recognise and promote the excellent scientific career of a researcher or lecturer at the University, valuing their contribution to the creation of knowledge and scientific production.
The Award Jury, made up of vice-rectors Pedro Rodrigues and Fátima Vieira and professors José Paiva, José Varejão and Rui J. G. Ramos, decided to award the Award for Excellence in Scientific Research, in the area of Arts and Humanities, to both researchers ex aequo, in recognition of their outstanding efforts in scientific production, in attracting funding and in developing scientific research activities at the University of Porto.
In this edition, in addition to André Tavares and Miguel Carvalhais, the award will honour researchers and teachers André Adélio Mendes, Fantina Tedim, Fernando Ferreira Santos and Paula Soares, in the following areas: Health and Life Sciences; Exact Sciences, Engineering and Technologies; and Social Sciences. Each prize, worth 7,500 euros, is sponsored by Caixa Geral de Depósitos, U.Porto's banking partner.
The Prize will be awarded during the Solemn Session of University Day, which this year will be held on the afternoon of Monday 24 March at the University's Historical Building (Rectory).
Promoted by the U.Porto Vice-Rectory for Research and Innovation, the Prize for Excellence in Scientific Research was established in 2018 to affirm the University as one of the main centres of scientific research in Portugal.
