Colloquium

Auditorium 3, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation
live broadcast

In a partnership between FAUP and the University of Minho, the colloquium Keeping It Modern: Conservation and Management of Modern Movement Heritage takes place in the context of the exhibitions 'No Place is Deserted. Piscina de Marés (1960-2021). Álvaro Siza' and 'Beira Central Station, Mozambique (1957-1966)', on display in the Atrium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Art Library and part of projects funded by the Getty Foundation, based in Los Angeles.

The colloquium aims to debate central issues in the field of modern heritage conservation and management, with the direct contribution of representatives and members of prestigious institutions in this field such as the Getty Foundation, the Le Corbusier Foundation, the World Monument Fund, Docomomo, the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee of 20th Century Heritage (ISC20c), as well as the Universities of Porto and Minho.

The colloquium will be organized in two sessions: the first will focus on the conservation and reuse of modern heritage, with the participation of international speakers who will present specific cases of cooperation and intervention projects in emblematic works of modern architecture; the second session will focus on the projects funded by the Getty Foundation's Keeping It Modern initiative for the Marés Swimming Pool (Matosinhos, Portugal) and Beira Central Station (Beira, Mozambique), from their contextualization to the presentation of the respective Management and Conservation Plans.

The colloquium will close with a debate and a visit to the exhibitions with the curators.

Admission is free.
