Open Class Research Seminar 2-C [PDA] "Perspectives on children's participation in the construction of the common city" with Manuel Sarmento, Gabriela Trevisan, Mariana Martins de Carvalho and Frederico Moura e SáCycle Conversas do Território #1, 2.ª edição

The open class 'Perspectives on children's participation in the construction of the common city. Methodologies of narration of space and territory with children', within the 2nd edition of the cycle 'Territory Conversations', integrated in the course unit Research Seminar 2, study option C 'Urban Dynamics and Forms' of the PhD Program in Architecture of FAUP, will have the participation of:

Manuel Sarmento (sociologist, U.Minho professor, member of the Superior Council of ProChild CoLAB);

Gabriela Trevisan (sociologist, ProChild CoLAB researcher);

Mariana Martins de Carvalho (architect, PhD in Architecture by FAUP and researcher of ProChild CoLAB);

Frederico Moura e Sá (urban planner, PhD in Architecture by FAUP, UA professor).

The perception that children are citizens - and, as such, just like adults have the "right to the city" - has been promoting new perspectives of work in the fields of municipal policies, urbanism and architecture, guided not only by the idea of building a "children's city" (citá dei bambini and child-friendly city), but also by the defense of children's participation in the construction of the common city. In this seminar some of these perspectives will be presented, supported both by the concrete intervention in the scope of the ProChild Colab projects underway in Guimarães and by the theorization of children's participation in urban design, based on sociological research and architectural and urbanistic studies.

The session will have a first part dedicated to the presentations of the guests, followed by a debate among all the participants.

The class will take place in person (with all the guests in the room), and will also be broadcast via zoom.
