Mahdi Alizadeh

Mahdi Alizadeh is an architect based in Portugal. He has graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (2022), with his thesis entitled "The Pursuit of Presence in Architecture: A Phenomenological Narrative of Naqsh-e-Jahan Square of Ispahan", for which he gained the full mark 20/20. Prior to his master's degree he completed his bachelor's studies at the Clermont-Ferrand School of Architecture (ENSA Clermont-Ferrand). During his master's degree, he also served as the student representative for two consecutive years in the Pedagogic Council (conselho pedagógico) of the faculty. In addition, Mahdi is the co-founder of architectural round-table talks by the name of Café com Esquissos, which focuses in bridging between academia and the practice of architecture. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. studies at FAUP, in the E profile, Theories and Practices of Project (Teoria e Práticas do Projecto). He also serves as the student's representative in the Doctoral Monitoring Committee (Comissão de acompanhamento do PDA). Since 2024, he has been integrated in the Center for Studies in Architecture and Urbanism (CEAU), as a collaborating researcher. Mahdi has a number of publications in international and national conferences, and has been writing continuously since 2022. He has worked in a number of architectural offices across Europe, gaining practical experience in various scales and projects. His main areas of research and interest include: Theory and History of Architecture; Urbanism; Portuguese Architecture; Modern Movement; Modernity; Heritage; Tradition; Italian Architecture; Interdisciplinary Studies; Cultural Studies; Fernando Távora; Ernesto Nathan Rogers; Álvaro Siza; Alberto Campo Baeza; Franco Purini; Eduardo Souto de Moura.
