This project constitutes a process of interinstitutional cooperation between FAUP and Espaço Municipal E.M. for the production of housing, through a participatory process and training of the population involved, under the funding of the 1º Direito/PRR programme.

The process includes the relocation of three communities currently living in precarious situations, mainly made up of Roma ethnic groups, covering around 180 people, divided into 44 households.

The community of Anta lives in prefabricated housing with overcrowding and lack of conditions, Ardegães corresponds to a rural house in an advanced state of degradation, and Lagielas constitutes a temporary response to housing in containers, therefore it is necessary to guarantee adequate housing solutions that respond to the diversity and needs of these families.

This process will allow to rethink the conventional way of designing public housing, as it focuses on three closely articulated dimensions: the production of technical architectural projects (corresponding to the new developments that will be designed and built), the involvement of families in the design of housing solutions (according to the preferences and specificities of each household) and the training/empowerment aspect (crossing different types of knowledge, through the integration of academic training and local learning, in order to expand and certify skills, to expand job opportunities and family autonomy).

With this objective, the FAUP and Espaço Municipal teams work together and through close work with communities on the field, supported by a scientific and multidisciplinary team responsible for monitoring and consultancy, which aims to introduce different dimensions of work.
