Abstract
The islands of Porto are original housing structures of the industrial revolution that, guided by their physical and social precariousness, house about 5% of the city's population. This project, inserted in the AIIA - Integrated Approaches for Active Inclusion program, aimed to create the necessary conditions to: (1) operationalize the rehabilitation of the islands of Porto, based on the criteria defined between FAUP and the Municipality of Porto; (2) enable the convergence of urban rehabilitation with social intervention conducted by entities of the municipal social network. The work was based on the exhaustive analysis of a pilot territory - the Lomba area - including both a detailed socio-spatial survey and the elaboration of proposals for the rehabilitation of spaces, which were accompanied by FAUP. The main results were: (1) the approval of an acquisition and rehabilitation operation, by Porto Vivo - SRU, of 6 islands in this territory - with an estimated amount of 7.4 million euros; (2) the institutionalization of a service office for island owners at Porto Vivo - SRU, with a view to obtaining financing under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
