FAUP integra projeto europeu KA2-Erasmus+ 'UpGranT. Updating the Grand Tour. Memory and Invention of the European Built Environment' Projeto

2024-2026

The Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto is part of the project ‘UpGranT - Updating the Grand Tour. Memory and Invention of the European Built Environment', funded by the European Union (2023-1-IT02-KA220-HED-000158377), to the value of 400,000 euros, under the Erasmus+ - KA2 programme (Cooperation between organisations and institutions).

UpGranT, which began in September 2023 and ends in 2026, brings together the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto - Portugal, the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna - Italy, the Art Academy of Latvia - Latvia, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki - Greece and the Estonian Art Academy - Estonia, under the coordination of the Politecnico di Milano - Italy.

The ‘Grand Tour’, a journey through Europe with Italy and Greece as the main destinations, was a practice of several generations of architects and artists, culminating in the early modern period, triggering the construction of a European cultural horizon long before the EU was a political and economic entity.

Identifying the ‘Grand Tour’ as a legacy, UpGranT proposes to put the journey, updated in its practice and content, back at the centre of the training of EU architects.

The FAUP team is made up of Helder Casal Ribeiro (IR), José Miguel Rodrigues and Sílvia Ramos. FAUP's associated partners in this project are the Serralves Foundation Museum of Contemporary Art, the Manoel de Oliveira Cinema House - Serralves, the Marques da Silva Foundation and Casa da Arquitetura - Portuguese Architecture Centre.

All the information about UpGranT will soon be available on social media and at www.upgrandtour.eu.
