FAUP lecturers honoured at the 2025 Innovative Pedagogical Practice Award Award
14th March 2024
The 2025 edition of the ‘Innovative Pedagogical Practice’ Award honoured several projects developed by teachers from the University of Porto, with three FAUP teachers standing out: Mário Mesquita, Rui Póvoas and Edgar Brito.
The project ‘A comunidade como Prática: um espaço transdisciplinar e colaborativo de intervenção’ was awarded second place, worth 2,000 euros, and is the result of collaboration between lecturers from seven faculties at the University of Porto. As well as Professor Mário Mesquita from FAUP, the project also includes: Isabel Menezes, Catarina Brandão, Cidália Duarte, Diana Alves, Norberto Ribeiro, Pedro Ferreira, Sofia Castanheira Pais and Teresa Silva Dias (FPCEUP); Cristina Parente, from the Faculty of Arts (FLUP); Helena Sofia Lopes (FEUP); Marta Resende (FMDUP); Sofia Cruz (FEP); and António Ferreira (FBAUP). The course involves students from different areas in projects to solve problems in communities in Porto, using transdisciplinary, collaborative and creative strategies.
The project ‘Structural Design and Experimentation - A design to build studio for experimentation and creativity’, led by Rui Póvoas and Edgar Brito, from FAUP, was awarded third prize, worth 1,000 euros.
In this edition of the ‘Innovative Pedagogical Practice’ Award, six proposals were honoured with a total of 10,000 euros. Promoted by the Educational Innovation Unit of the U.Porto Rectory, the prize aims to recognise and support innovative pedagogical projects, and the funding awarded can be used to purchase equipment, licences or software, furniture, external services and other purchases.
The winning proposals must present a solid, well-founded pedagogical strategy that encourages active student participation, using innovative resources to contribute to the overall improvement of teaching and learning processes.
The awards will be presented on 24 March in the Rectorate's Great Hall during the Solemn Session of University Day 2025.
