MIArq director on the jury for the official Portuguese representation at the Venice Art Biennale in 2026 Jury
7th March 2025
Joaquim Moreno, director of the Integrated Master's Degree in Architecture and lecturer at FAUP, is on the selection panel for Portugal's representation at the Venice Biennale in 2026. The 61st edition will be curated by Swiss-Cameroonian Koyo Kouoh.
The jury team, of which Joaquim Moreno is a member, is made up of Andreia Magalhães, artistic director of the Oliva Art Centre and guest lecturer at the FBAUP, José Bragança de Miranda, essayist and university professor, Nuno Faria, director of the Arpad Szenes - Vieira da Silva Foundation Museum (Lisbon), and Marta Mestre, curator at the CCB.
As part of the new selection model for Portugal's official representation at the Venice Biennale, the jury will define the methodology to be adopted, based on the one used in this year's biennale, dedicated to architecture, adjusting it to the Art Biennale. The call for expressions of interest is expected to open when the general theme is defined, which should be next summer.
The announcement of the new jury was made by the Minister of Culture during the first public presentation of the curatorial project at the Venice Architecture Biennale, which will take place from 10 May to 23 November this year, under the theme ‘Intelligens. Natural. Artificial’, curated by Italian Carlo Ratti. The project to represent Portugal at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition is entitled ‘Paradise, Today’, by curators Paula Melâneo, Pedro Bandeira and Luca Martinucci, and by assistant curators Catarina Raposo and Nuno Cera.
