'Vitruve hors texte. Biographie d'un livre' by André Tavares Book presentation

June 25th, 2024
Cité Internationale de Lyon

The presentation of the French edition of 'Vitruve hors texte. Biographie d'un livre' by André Tavares, Researcher at FAUP, will take place on June 25 at the Cité Internationale de Lyon during the Salon du livre, as part of the Congrès international d'histoire de l'art CIHA 2024.

Published by Éditions de la Villette, the book will be presented at 3 p.m. as part of the round table on "Books about books" chaired by Ilaria Andreoli, in the Agora space of the CIHA Salon du livre. A party will follow at 6.30pm at Archipel Librairie, 21 Place des Terreaux, with publisher Pierre Chabard in attendance.

'Vitruve hors texte. Biographie d'un livre' traces the history of more than a hundred printed editions of 'Vitruvius' spread across Europe from 1486 to the present day. In the process, the author examines and identifies how the history of the book and the history of architecture have intersected to create a symbiotic relationship between the printed and the built.

The book was originally published as 'Vitruvius Without Text' by gta Verlag, the publishing house of the Institute for History and Theory of Architecture at ETH Zurich. The French edition was supported by FAUP.
