'... the hidden intrigue... spatial narratives in public space and beyond' by Karsten Huneck and Bernd Trümpler / KHBT Conference

March 21, 2024, Thursday, 6:30 p.m.
Fernando Távora Auditorium

The creative studio KHBT, based in London and Berlin, will present at FAUP the conference '... the hidden intrigue... spatial narratives in public space and beyond' based on a set of creations that reflect their practice in the design of public space and mediation between clients and users.

Karsten Huneck and Bernd Trümpler, founders of KHBT, will be introduced by Professor Clara Pimenta do Vale and architect Marta Aguiar.

KHBT is a creative studio founded by Karsten Huneck and Bernd Trümpler in London and Berlin. The consistency of KHBT's spatial creation is revealed in the works of local and international importance that have been widely published in the international press, distinguished with various awards, such as the prestigious Young Architect Of The Year Award (YAYA) in 2009, in which KHBT won the first 'special commendation' in the competition's history. Karsten and Bernd are also partners in the experimental architecture network osaoffice for subversive architecture, where subversive architecture acts as a platform for spatial research that supports practice. With more than 20 years' experience in architecture - they have worked at Foster and Partners among others - they have 30 years of experimentation in urban contexts with osaoffice for subversive architecture, and 15 years of teaching at various universities. KHBT follows a unique design process of progressive refinement towards the goal of defining what is essential. Among the studio's many projects are: 'Intact', the illegal redevelopment of a signal box in East London; 'Kunsthuelle', an extension to the roof of the Liverpool Biennial; 'Maindee Triangle', a public space in Newport; 'The Gathering Place', a public art commission in Inverness (with Sans Façon); and 'Un-Veiled', the opening structure for RIBA North (Royal British Institute of Architecture) in Liverpool.khbt.eu

The lecture will be given in English, without translation.
