The ceremony to announce the winners of the 2025 edition of the Luis Ferreira Alves International Photography Prize will take place on June 28 (Saturday) at 4pm at the Casa da Arquitectura in Matosinhos.

The event will feature screenings of the winning series, institutional interventions and a talk with the members of the jury: architect Eduardo Souto de Moura and photographers Hélène Binet and Paulo Catrica.

To allow for international monitoring, the ceremony will be held in a hybrid format, with the physical presence of guests and live streaming via the Zoom platform. In addition to the screening of the finalist series, the program also includes critical comments from the jury and a moment of dialogue with its members.

In this edition, marked by a high level of international participation - with 1,495 entries from 99 countries - ten finalists have been selected to compete for the 1st Prize, while 2nd and 3rd places will also be awarded. For the organization of the Prize, the finalist series stand out for their technical excellence, creativity, artistic maturity and critical view of contemporary architecture.

The jury may also award Special Mentions to projects that, despite not being among the finalists, show outstanding artistic and conceptual quality. These awards will be published exclusively in an online gallery on the Prize's official website and social media, and will not be part of the physical exhibition or printed catalog.

The organization stresses that the jury evaluated the proposals anonymously and on the basis of their artistic and conceptual merits, in strict accordance with the prize regulations. The final selection reflects a diverse and inclusive understanding of architectural photography, integrating political, social, artistic and cultural dimensions, and encompassing a wide variety of visual languages and conceptual approaches.

The Luis Ferreira Alves International Photography Award is promoted by Porto City Council and Cityscopio - Associação Cultural. Launched by the photographer's heirs with the support of various entities, it is a biennial program that aims to stimulate reflection on the relationship between photography and architecture. The competition has the support of FAUP, Casa da Arquitectura, the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission, the Marques da Silva Foundation and the Portuguese Architects' Association, among other institutions. It also has the support of various brands and organizations, such as CIN, the “la Caixa” Foundation / BPI, Canon, Metro do Porto and AMAG.
