'Practices, theories, counterpractices' with Alejandra Celedon UC Theory 3 open class [MIArq]

On 11 October, at 11am, there will be an open lecture for the Theory 3 course [MIArq], entitled ‘Practices, theories, counterpractices’ with the architect Alejandra Celedon, director of the Faculty of Architecture, Art and Design at Universidad Diego Portales.

Alejandra Celedon is an architect from the Universidad de Chile, with a master's degree from Bartlett UCL (2007) and a PhD from The Architectural Association School of Architecture (2014). Her doctoral thesis - ‘Rhetoric of the Plan’ - studied the relationship between drawings and words. - studied the relationship between drawings and words, between objects and discourses. She was a professor and researcher at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile between 2014 and 2023, where she was Director of the Master's Degree in Architecture. She has taught at The Berlage, The Architectural Association, Universidad de Navarra, Universidad de Torcuato di Tella and Universidad de Costa Rica. Her work has been published in San Rocco, AA Files, Journal of Architectural Education, Architectural Review, Archithese, L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui, ARQChile and Revista180. Her research has focused on agency and the politics of representation in architecture, studying the geopolitical strategies of the Chilean dictatorship with regard to housing, educational programmes as infrastructure and Santiago's public interiors as an archive of the public sphere. She curated ‘Stadium: a building that renders the image of a city’ - Chile Pavilion at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2018, and ‘The Plot: Miracle and Mirage’ at the Chicago Architecture Biennale 2019. Since 2023, she has been director of the Faculty of Architecture, Art and Design at the Diego Portales University.
