Port of Call: Research Cartographies Meeting

June 11, 2025, Wednesday, 14h30-18h00, Rectory of the University of Porto

The 'Port of Call: Research Cartographies' colloquium offers a moment of sharing and reflection on the experiences developed within the scope of the PORTofCALL research project - an interdisciplinary study on the cultural encounters between Africa, Asia and Europe in the modern period and their influence on the built heritage of Indian Ocean ports under Portuguese influence.

The colloquium will bring together members of the team and invited guests in a round table dedicated to presenting and discussing some of the ongoing research. This will be followed by the opening of an exhibition of maps and views of Indian ports, dating from the 16th to the 18th centuries, from the University of Porto's old collection.

'Port of Call: Cartographies of Research' is an invitation to navigate critically through territories, sources and methodologies, reflecting on the challenges of mapping and valuing cultural heritage in transnational and plural contexts.
