Since 2003, PATORREB conferences on Building Pathology and Rehabilitation have been held in Portugal - Porto (2003, 2006, 2019, and 2015), Spain - Santiago de Compostela (2012), and Brazil - Rio de Janeiro (2018), involving decision-makers, professors, researchers, students, designers, construction companies and other professionals. The extraordinary interest shown in the previous six editions, which attracted hundreds of participants, is the reason for the 7th edition of the PATORREB2023 conference, organised jointly by the Faculty of Engineering (FEUP) and the Faculty of Architecture (FAUP) of the University of Porto, on the themes of HOUSING - in a session held at FEUP on 26 September - and HERITAGE - in a session to be held on 7 November at FAUP.
The conservation and rehabilitation of built heritage, whether classified or not, is a highly topical issue, given the multiple challenges it faces, whether due to the tourist and real estate pressure present in historical centres, or in the search for the necessary balance between preserving the cultural values it entails and the need to promote requalification actions, both of a functional nature and in the context of promoting greater energy efficiency in these buildings, as well as a whole range of actions aimed at ensuring their sustainability.
PATORREB2023, in its second session devoted to the theme of HERITAGE, will adopt a similar organisational model to the first session, including the presentation of 10 conferences and their respective debates, as well as the presentation of a book on heritage.
It is hoped that PATORREB2023 will be helpful for all who decide to take part in it and will provide an in-depth and participatory discussion that can make a valid contribution to the issue of HERITAGE in all its multiple aspects and scales.
