Opening of the ‘CONTRAST III’ exhibition

On Saturday 9 November, at 4pm, the opening session of the exhibition and book launch of the project Contrast: Teaching Photography in its interaction with Art, Architecture and Design will take place at the Centro Português de Fotografia (CPF) - Enxovias de Santa Teresa e Santo António.

The opening session of the exhibition will be the responsibility of the Director of the CPF, Dr Bernardino Castro, who will then give the floor to the project coordinators, Prof Pedro Leão Neto, Prof Olívia Marques da Silva (ESMAD), Prof José Carneiro (FBAUP) and Prof Susana Lourenço Marques (FBAUP), who will give a brief introduction to the exhibition. Before the visit begins, Pedro Leão Neto will invite Prof Delfim Sardo (Curator and Essayist) to present the book ‘CONTRAST III’, for which he wrote an introduction.

The visit will also include the participation of various Professors and Artists who are part of the Contrast project and who are responsible for selecting the student projects representing their institutions, as well as the exhibition's curatorial team.

The CONTRAST - ALTERITY, AUSENCE AND ORIGIN exhibition is also part of the parallel programme of Images of the Real Imagined (IRI) - a photography, film and multimedia cycle - which is one of the extensions of the IRI20anos programme, which runs from 11 to 15 November.

CONTRAST Exhibition Programme

As part of the CONTRAST project programme, which aims to contribute to the dissemination, creation and teaching of photography in its interaction with Art, Architecture and Design, the Portuguese Photography Centre (CPF) will host the CONTRAST - ALTERITY, AUSENCE AND ORIGIN exhibition between 9 November 2024 and 27 April 2025. The programme includes photography exhibited by students from the institutions involved, as well as various round tables, talks and guided tours.

The CONTRAST exhibition was curated by the project's graphic design team, with the close involvement and collaboration of the project's coordination team, as well as representatives from the various institutions that make up the project.

The exhibition will be on show at the CPF until 27 April 2025 and consists of a selection of photographic projects by students representing ten higher education institutions teaching photography in various disciplinary and artistic areas: DARQ, DCAM, EA.UCP, ESAP, ESMAD, FAUP, FBAUL, FBAUP, FEUP and IPT.

The exhibition also includes a video with sound and various contents that communicates the photographic work of students and emerging authors carried out in the teaching context of the various institutions involved in this project, while allowing students to explain their projects, as well as observe their photographic work both in book format and on the online platform.

During the exhibition's time at the CPF, between 9 November 2024 and 27 April 2025, various talks and guided tours will be organised for art, architecture, design and photography students, as well as a more general public interested in these subjects. We believe that the ‘CONTRAST’ exhibition programme will make a significant contribution to bringing the public closer to the work done by all the students from the various institutions involved in the project and that the guided tours will enable different readings of the works, artists and exhibitions.CONTRAST Website
