FAUP, in partnership with MUDE, is presenting in the exhibition ‘More than Houses | How we will live in April 2074’ the research produced in the academic year 2023/2024 by students and lecturers from the Faculties of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Fine Arts and Engineering in Portugal.

The exhibition and all the associated cultural programme - debates, talks, guided tours - contribute to the theme of living and new demands, with a critical reflection and proposals on the contemporary challenges of housing and public space, putting into perspective the construction of an intercultural society and the promotion of global citizenship, with reference to the memory of the experience of the housing programmes that took place immediately after April 25, 1974, namely the Local Ambulatory Support Service (SAAL).

About the More than Houses Programme

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of 25 April 1974, the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto is organising the ‘More than Houses’ programme. This ephemeris deserves to be commemorated with a reflection on issues that then and now remain a challenge and an unfulfilled need. To this end, this initiative brings together the Schools of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Fine Arts in Portugal, contributing a critical and propositional reflection on the contemporary challenges of housing and public space in building an intercultural society and promoting global citizenship. The programme, which began in April 2023, includes seminars, exhibitions, publications and a workshop to instigate, inform and communicate the research produced by students at university institutions in the 2023/2024 academic year. With reference to the memory of the experience of the housing programmes that took place immediately after 25 April 1974, namely the Local Ambulatory Support Service (SAAL), the aim is to make a contribution to the future that we want for 2074, 100 years after 25 April.
