Architecture Collaboratory Here at FAUP Community, Proximity, Action: Collective Use Equipment in Portugal and Spain 1939-1985FAUP
23rd April 2025, 6pm
Porto, Faculty of Architecture, University of Porto
On 23 April 2025, the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto will host a presentation and discussion session on the Arquitectura Aqui platform (https://arquitecturaaqui.eu/), with the presence of researchers Ricardo Costa Agarez and Catarina Ruivo Pereira.
We all live, work, study, recuperate and have fun in spaces we know little about. If we know more and better, and if this knowledge is built collectively - jointly by those who research the history and architecture of these spaces and by those who created them and enjoy or have enjoyed them - we can contribute to making informed decisions about which buildings and ensembles we can keep, reuse and replace. By knowing more, we can better decide how to update and improve this heritage of collective enjoyment.
This platform is the result of the ReARQ. IB - Built Environment Knowledge for Resilient, Sustainable Communities: Understanding Everyday Modern Architecture and Urban Design in the Iberian Peninsula (1939-1985) (European Research Council - ERC Starting Grant 949686), based at DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte - Centre for Studies on Socioeconomic Change and Territory (Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon), and ArchNeed - The Architecture of Need: Community Facilities in Portugal (1945-1985) (Foundation for Science and Technology - PTDC/ART-DAQ/6510/2020), based at CIDEHUS - Interdisciplinary Centre for History, Cultures and Societies (University of Évora).
The online chronology Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Support for Assistance Equipment (1956-1986), a collaboration between the Arquitectura Aqui initiative and the Gulbenkian Art Library and Archives, will also be presented on this occasion.
