'Modern Brazilian Architecture' by Sergio Moacir Marques Conference

Architect and urban planner Sergio Moacir Marques, a professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, is presenting a lecture at FAUP on the manifestation of Brazilian Modern Architecture in the south of the country, by examining exemplary projects and works by the generation that descended from the modern avant-garde in the region.

In this lecture, Sergio Moacir Marques intends, through an analysis of the period from the late 1940s to the late 1960s, which covers the introduction, dissemination and expansion of modern architecture in the state, to reflect on how the trajectory and, above all, how the corresponding architectural production reflects the panorama of modern architecture in Latin America and its insertion in the broader context of the Modern Movement.

The guest will be introduced by Professor Rui Póvoas.

Sergio Moacir Marques is an architect and associate professor at FA/UFRGS, and the coordinator of DOCOMOMO SUL. He has published articles and books on the subject, such as "THE SECOND AGE OF GLASS: Transparency and Shadow in the Modern Architecture of the South American Cone: 1930 0 1970" and "From Brasilia to Chuí: Parallels of Modern Urbanism in Southern Brazil". He is the author of books, articles and projects published in periodicals in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, South Korea and Greece. He is also the author of several publications in magazines and books on topics such as contemporary architecture, the teaching of architectural and urban design, modern architecture and Latin American architecture. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of the National Association for Research and Postgraduate Studies in Architecture - ANPARQ and co-leader of the CNPq Research Group "THE TEACHING AND RESEARCH OF THE PROJECTThe Production of Modern and Contemporary Architecture". He is a partner in MooMAA - Moojen & Marques Arquitetos Associados and is a member of MoMAAB_aTELIÊ, an Architecture, Art, Culture, Design and Urbanism collective. He regularly participates in conferences and academic events as a speaker, contributing to the dissemination of disciplinary knowledge in the field of architecture.
