The third and final Meeting of Schools #3 of the "More than Houses" Program will take place on May 2 and 3 at the College of Arts of the University of Coimbra, where the 25 Schools of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Fine Arts and Engineering will meet to present, share and discuss the proposals that are being developed on the challenges of Housing in Portugal, within the scope of the "More than Houses" program.

Schools Meeting #3 is part of the "HABIT.AÇÃO! Seminar on Housing Projects and Policies", which proposes an analysis of the shortage of affordable housing, a poignant issue in Portuguese society, and is co-organized by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto and the Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra (DARQ/FCTUC).

On the mornings of May 2 and 3, 10:00-13:00, the College of Arts will host the presentation and debate of academic projects by the 25 schools participating in the "More than Houses" Program. On the afternoon of May 2, from 3pm to 6pm, there will be a presentation and discussion of housing projects by Orange Arquitectura, Branco del Rio, depA arquitetos, FMVS and ATA Atelier in the Auditorium of UC's Colégio da Trindade, ending at 6pm with a lecture by Xavier Nós Mano (HArquitectes) on public housing experiences in Catalonia. On the afternoon of May 3, from 3pm to 6pm, there will be a presentation and debate on Housing Policies in Portugal, by José António Bandeirinha, Helena Roseta, Aitor Varea Oro, Sara Brysch and Filipa Serpa, and, at 6pm, a conference by Hans Ibelings (University of Toronto), on public housing experiences in the Netherlands, also at the Colégio da Trindade, in Coimbra's Alta district.

The initiative is part of the official program of the Commemorations of the 50th Anniversary of the Revolution of April 25, 1974; and also of the commemorations of 35 years of Architecture at the University of Coimbra.

More than Houses

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974, FAUP is organizing the "More than Houses" programme. This anniversary deserves to be commemorated with a reflection on issues that then and now remain a challenge and an unfulfilled need. To this end, this initiative brings together the Schools of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Fine Arts and Engineering in Portugal, contributing a critical and propositional reflection on the contemporary challenges of housing and public space in building an intercultural society and promoting global citizenship. The program, which began in April 2023, includes seminars, exhibitions, publications and workshops, to instigate, inform and communicate the research produced by students at university institutions in the 2023/2024 academic year. With reference to the memory of the experience of the housing programs that took place immediately after April 25, 1974, namely the Local Ambulatory Support Service (SAAL), the aim is to make a contribution to the future that we want for 2074, 100 years after April 25.
