Giulia Secci

Giulia Secci graduated with a Biology degree in 2014 and obtained her Master's degree in Marine Biology in 2016, both from the University of Cagliari. In 2018, she was awarded a PhD mixed grant from FCT to carry out her research at CIIMAR (Porto, Portugal) and Karl-Franzens University (Graz, Austria). Her PhD focuses on various aspects of the genetics of the Salmonidae subfamily Thymallinae, requiring the development of both laboratory and bioinformatics skills. The laboratory skills required include the ability to perform and optimize various DNA/RNA extraction procedures, PCR and real-time PCR, and preparation of libraries for NGS. Additionally, data analysis and bioinformatics procedures are necessary, including the analysis of raw data from low-coverage genome sequencing, ddRAD and Sanger sequencing, as well as phylogenetic analyses such as Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian methods, and time calibration analyses. She has also conducted phylogeographic and population structure analyses to recover the evolutionary history of the studied species. Ultimately, she has produced both genomic and transcriptomic resources extremely useful in the study of salmonid species. Over the last six years, she has published ten ISI-indexed publications.
