“Magnificat em Talha Dourada” Siza Baroque Concert

Clérigos Church, 14 December 2024, 9:30 p.m.

On December 14, the Siza Barroco research project concludes with a very symbolic concert celebrating architecture and, in particular, the work of Álvaro Siza.

Magnificat em talha dourada (Magnificat in Gilded Wood) is “a tribute to the Baroque” and, “naturally, the spirit of Bach echoes, hovering over the work”, says Eurico Carrapatoso, the author, who, like Siza, composes by establishing strong links with history, privileging the value of tradition over the whims of originality.

Performed by the Olisipo Vocal Group (the same group that premiered it 25 years ago), the 50th performance of this work, hosted by the Clérigos Church, is dedicated to Siza by the project’s researchers (including the absent ones and all the angels that hover over his drawings).

You can hear the beginning of page 69 of Carrapatoso’s play: Ó meu menino

“The Clérigos tower erupts against the almost illuminated penumbra of the sky, gold dust.” (Siza)

Nasoni would have been proud of the fruitfulness of his work (Baroque).

The concert is open to the public upon prior registration and is subject to capacity.

Free registration is available from 9 December at 14h00.
