Call for papers for PSIAX Magazine#8: ‘Design and Ecology’ Extension of the Deadline

Submission of proposals until 20 October 2024

The call for submissions is open until 20 October 2024 [new date] for publication in issue no. 8 of the 2nd series of the journal PSIAX: Studies and Reflections on Drawing, which will focus on issues relating to ‘Drawing and Ecology’.

The open call for proposals is aimed at researchers, artists and thinkers to contribute to the next edition of PSIAX, which aims to explore the interconnection between drawing and image with ecology.

Drawing and image can be a reflection of human thought or concerns, representations of the natural, of our ideas about the world in a contemporary context marked by worrying ecological and sustainability issues.

Does drawing reveal the way we relate to our planet, to the natural, to our integrated or detached awareness of what is natural and of which we are or are not a part? Do the images reveal our growing(?) awareness of our negative actions on the planet and the need to act differently?

Ecology, as the science of the interdependence of organisms and their environment, offers a valuable understanding of the interaction between humans and non-humans, between sentient beings and their environment. Today, it plays a fundamental role in understanding and resolving environmental issues such as overconsumption, climate change, biodiversity loss, habitat degradation, pollution and the depletion of our planet.

How can images, or how can drawing, critically question these issues, how can it explore these ideas, how can it show and represent our connections between species, possibly proposing alternatives or pointing out current concerns? How can drawing, as the materialisation of thought, the formalisation of ideas, the construction of solutions, inspire, mobilise, educate and inspire? How does drawing bear witness to our actions, our solutions, the changes in our ecological culture?

In this edition, the focus will be on showing drawings, artistic projects, images, articles, essays, contextualising or critical texts that account for, problematise or address representations of nature and landscape, environmental narratives, links between the human and the non-human, anthropocentric culture or other possible worldviews.
