José Pedro Sousa elected Vice-President of eCAADe eCAADe, European research network in digital architecture

October 2, 2025

FAUP professor and coordinator of the Digital Fabrication Laboratory (DFL), José Pedro Sousa, has been elected Vice-President of eCAADe – Education and Research in Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe – for the 2025–2027 term. The election took place during the association's Annual General Meeting, held as part of the 43rd eCAADe International Conference at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey.

At the same session, Professor Anetta Kępczyńska-Walczak (Lodz University of Technology, Poland) was elected President of eCAADe, succeeding Professor Aulikki Herneoja (University of Oulu, Finland), who assumed the position of President Emeritus.

Linked to eCAADe since 2003, José Pedro Sousa has consistently promoted FAUP's participation in this international community through the work developed at CEAU/FAUP's DFL. Among the most relevant initiatives are the organization, in 2013, in Porto, of the first Regional International Workshop (RIS), entitled 'Future Traditions. Rethinking the past and envisioning the future of architecture through the use of digital technologies' (with João Pedro Xavier); the co-organization, in 2019, of the joint conference ‘eCAADe + SIGraDi’ (with Goncalo Castro Henriques and João Pedro Xavier), under the theme ‘Architecture in the Age of the 4th Industrial Revolution’; and, more recently, the coordination of the application process for the World CAAD PhD Workshop in the context of eCAADe.

With this election, eCAADe reinforces its mission to promote teaching and research in the field of computer-aided design in architecture, affirming its role as an international platform for scientific and academic cooperation.

eCAADe – Education and Research in Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe – is a European non-profit association dedicated to teaching and research on the use of digital technologies in architecture. Throughout its 43 years of activity, it has promoted the exchange of knowledge between universities, researchers, and professionals through annual conferences, scientific publications, merit scholarships, and the management of CuminCAD, one of the largest international databases of articles and publications in the field. Today, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious scientific communities in the discipline, networking with similar organizations such as ACADIA (North America), CAADRIA (Asia), SIGraDi (Ibero-America), and ASCAAD (Middle East).
